BURTON/NEWBURY
VOICI LA REPONSE QUE JAI RECUS DES GENEALOGISTE DE TERRE NEUVE EN ANGLAIS
POUR LES NEWBURY OU NEWBERRY
GLADYS NEWBURY was born circa 1928 likely at Springdale. There is no baptism record for her at the Archives, likely baptized Salv Army (records are incomplete at the archives) or Pent (no records at Archives).
Her siblings were Henry Wesley NEWBURY who was born Oct 10 1918 Springdale, baptized in the United Church.
And Harvey NEWBURY born circa 1922, likely at Springdale
Gladys, Henry Wesley and Harvey were the children of George NEWBURY and Esther ANN RIDEOUt.
They were married OCt 31 1917 in the United Church, probably at Springdale although the church records actually did NOT give the place of the marriages. She married as widow Ann Robinson, and her father was given as John Rideout. Unfortunately George Newbury's father was NOT GIVEN, and we dont have a baptism for him - it is missing from the records (and I have collected all the available records, both church and civil for this area).
Esther Ann RIDEOUT was baptized as ANN RIDEOUT and was born Apr 13 1893 North West Arm (now Burlington), Green Bay, Notre Dame Bay, the daughter of John RIDEOUT and Julia KELLy. She was first married to John Henry ROBINSON on Dec 15 1914 at Shoe Cove Bight United Church.
(John Henry Robinson was b Oct 27 1893 Shoe Cove Bight - died May 20 1916 age 22 yrs, buried Shoe Cove Bight, the son of John Thomas Robinson & Elizabeth Newbury; Ann Rideout and John Henry Robinson had only 1 child, Elsie Robinson who was born Aug 14 1915 Shoe Cove and died Jan 3 1916 Shoe Cove age 5 months of bronchitis).

Hi Michel
Unfortunately it looks like the BURTON & NEWBURY families that you are interested in, are 2 that cannot be connected to the other Burton and Newbury families with any certainty. The Newburys were from Shoe Cove Bight, a small community near La Scie (where many of them eventually moved). The Burtons were more numerous, and have several groups in different communities in the Notre Dame Bay area.
I believe that the parents of your CHARLES BURTON were Herbert and Margaret Burton, even though the spouse of Charles in his obit is named as "Florence" I have no birth records for Herbert and Margaret, nor for any of their children, but I do have what I believe is Charles's obituary, from the NORWESTER newspaper.below. They may have conerted to Salv Army and then to Pentacostal (and there are no Pentacostal records at the Provincial Archives, the church has not given any of its records). There are Salvation Army church records for Notre Dame Bay but they are not complete: I have gone through most of them looking for Notre Dame Bay families.
There are 2 candidates for Herbert Burton
(1) Herbert Mark BURTOn b Oct 11 1895 Harts Cove, Twillingate, son of Abel Burton & Amelia Sansome
(2) Herbert J. BURTON b June 12 1898 Shoe Cove, son of Lemuel Burton & Mary Matilda Graham.
NORWESTER OBIT:
Charles H BURTON: (bc 1927) - d Mar 18 2002 Springdale Hosp, age 75 yrs, of Springdale; member of Pent Ch. Service Mar 21 2002 Pent Ch, interment at Pent Cem.
